Tom, there are countless (popular) blogs entirely dedicated to male super heroes looking sexy. How could there not be an audience for such variant covers?

Just because people will read soemthing for free doesn’t mean that they’ll seek it out and pay money for it.

Cause its certainly missing the point on a lot of levels.
1. the Anon clearly said VARIANT covers. The appeal of variants is for the art on the cover and the story inside is kinda secondary (thus why variants tend to have less to do with selling the story inside, and why they are so limited in number to get. You have to seek them out.
and 2. completely ignoring that there IS a market for art amongst the crowd of people who appreciate sexy male super heroes.
I know friends who’ve spent hundreds and thousands on original comic art, and that is on TOP of the comics they buy from the comic book store. I even broke down and spent 200 bucks at my last con, picking up art from one of my fave comics… which surprise surprise, I paid money to buy. And I the fact that Thor looked ‘cute’ in those pages was certainly a bonus.
Not EVERYONE is gonna seek out and pay money for variants for lots of reasons (Like the Manara Variant is widely considered to be a subpar example of his art), but that is true for any variant. Using the fact that the market doesn’t really offer the option AT ALL isn’t the same thing as saying there isn’t a market for it. Cause walk up to the right artist, and they’ll tell you what it looks like from there side (I mean, try asking Kevin Wada how the market is for drawing super hero dudes looking sexy…)
The mind boggles.
What rock does one have to live under to be completely oblivious to the huge communities of fans who are not only willing, but already paying money on a regular basis to both professional and amateur artists to create works featuring sexy male superheroes?
